ASSESSMENT OF THE RESULTS OF TRANSURETHRAL RESECTION OF THE PROSTATE (TURP) FOR BENIGN PROSTATIC HYPERPLASIA AT HUE CENTRAL HOSPITAL
Abstract
This study aims to evaluate the treatment outcomes for benign pro-
static hyperplasia (BPH) using transurethral resection of the prostate
(TURP) at Hue Cetral Hospital in 2024. A cross- sectional descriptive
study was conducted on patients diagnosed with BPH who underwent
TURP. Clinical characteristics, intraoperative findings, and postopera-
tive outcomes were analyzed. Key parameters included preoperative In-
ternational Prostate Symptom Score (IPSS), quality of life (QoL) scores,
uroflowmetry, and surgical complications classified by the Clavien-Dindo
system. Most patients showed significant improvement in urinary symp-
toms and quality of life postoperatively. The majority had reduced IPSS
scores, increased maximum urinary flow rates (Qmax), and improved
QoL scores. Postoperative complications were minimal, with no life-
threatening events recorded.
